About Us

There is a superbly peaceful garden to the rear for those who enjoy alfresco eating or to read and meditate. The cottage is one of 5 set in a large, quiet, pebbled landscaped courtyard displaying an assortment of ornamental bedding plants. Access to the courtyard and the cottage is via double wrought iron gates.

A short walk (5 minutes) will take you into the historic Pennine market town - Penistone. A traditional retail open market attracting farmers, locals and visitors is held every Thursday morning as is the Womens Institute (Calendar Girls) in St. John’s Parish Hall where these very talented ladies display their wares from home cooked produce (pies, cakes meats), silk dyed scarves, pottery, straw dollies etc.

Home cooked quiches, tea and cakes can be enjoyed whilst you decide on your purchases. A popular monthly Saturday Farmers Market is held in Penistone where fresh produce - straight from the land - is available to purchase.

If you wish to venture further afield a 20 minute journey would take you to Holmfirth - the Last of the Summer Wine country where one can enjoy a day out where the popular series is filmed. There are a number of interesting book, fashion shops wine bars and restaurants, not forgetting the Compo Cafe where you can take a welcome break and “make a day” of your visit.

The cottage is an ideal base for those who enjoy walking, fishing, (we have private fishing rights to the stream flowing on the perimeter of the historical setting), or bird watching. RSPB Old Moor based in the Dearne Valley (20 minutes away) has extensive facilities and is a fantastic place to watch wildlife.

The cottage is self catering with two parking spaces available beyond the wrought iron gates in the garage enclosure. The cottage enjoys gas central heating and duvets and covers are provided. So guests only need to bring their own sheets and pillowcases and towels. Kitchen towels and tea towels are provided. A small well-behaved pet is allowed at at a small charge of £10.00. There is a park beyond the cottage with bins for doggy doos. Bookings are from 14.00 arrival time to 10.00 on the day of departure. The cottage is a non-smoking zone.
